Well, tomorrow was supposed to be the day we left this hell hole, but our truck had other plans. It broke down last week again and took over half the money we had saved for the move to fix. I am now stuck here for at l;east another month, again.
I really feel like crying. I have to be honest with a ll of you, I am a little jealous of your relationship with your in laws. I am glad you all have a great relationship and I wish I could have the same thing. No matter how hard I try, they always treat us bad.
My sister in law who moved out a few months ago had left her minisplit here and wanted to get it Friday. She had to turn off the electricity to remove it and I was working. She got mad because, she couldn't do it. Today, she finally removed it, but my mother in law told Miguel that because of us, hsi sister had to sleep in the heat for the past 2 nights and that all we do is cause problems for everybody here. Miguel got mad and told her that his sister does not live here and all she had to do was ask what time I was working that day so she could get it done and not interfere with my job. I started working at 7:00PM that night for God's sake!!
I started working this evening after having the past 3 Sunday's off and they knew I was working, I always tell them when I start to try to keep the noise down. They went to the kitchen and sat there talking, yelling, and laughing as loud as they could. The kitchen is right outside my bedroom door. I culdn't hear my students and they couldn't hear me. I kept stopping and asking them to quieten down and all they did was get louder. This went on for 3 hours. Bear in mind, they never sit in the kitchen, it is too hot there!
As for the moving to the rancho, we are not too sre now. We have tried to investigate the speed of the internet there and everybody says it is very slow, but we don't know if that is because of their plan or what. We tried to call Telmex, but they say we have to go to the local office in Veracruz.
I am in a fix with that. I have to have a good, stable conenection with atleast 5 mbps. The requirementes for my job are a minimum of 1 mbps upload and 1 mbps download. To get the 1 mbps upload, I have to have at least 5 mbps.
Ok, so, I feel that all I do is complain, complain, complain. I really hope to stop that very soon. I used to be a really happy person and hardly ever complained, I had no reason to complain, but now that is different.
If anybody has any advice as to what I can do to make these people quit making our life a living hell, please tell me. I will do anything except change who I am or act like I am something I am not. They like the husband sof my SILs, but that is becasue they agree with everythign they say and do. I have this huge problem, if I don't agree with somethig that affects me or my family, I will say something and they don't like that.
Thanks for listening to me complain.
You aren't the only person with Mexican in-law difficulties! When we lived down the street from mine I was in the exact same spot as you - about to go insane from the meddling and total disregard for respect/personal space...mainly my MIL and an annoying SIL. What did we do? We moved away. 2 hours up the mountain and it worked wonders for our relationship. They are still within visiting distance but not breathing down our necks about everything. Physical distance is the only way to resolve this, they will not come to honor your requests as long as you live together, IMHO. I feel your pain, I went through 2 years of that.
ReplyDeleteLeah is 100% right. Move away, far far away. They are playing with you, trying to push as far as they can until you cave and move back to the US. The women are most guilty of that. They feel like with you out of the picture they can once again control your husband. Plus they assume that you will make millions in the US that you will then send to your husband and in essence them, since they will now be in "control" of him. I've been through this, and I've talked with many other women on both sides of the coin. I wish you the best of luck.
ReplyDeleteAy mamita. I am so sorry your plans have changed again. And so sorry this inlaw thing is never ending! What the heck?
ReplyDeleteI know I keep posting positive poats about my inlaws, but dont worry , we have our moments still. Just last night I had to fend off yet morepassive agressive comments about how girls should only wear dresses.... May not seem like a big deal, but brainwashing girls starting at age one IS a big deal to me. Women are worth more than the skirt or dress they wear (and by extension, whats under it) . This is our battle, and I don't blog on it because one day Ill have inlaws fluent in English and they read my blog! Ugh.
Stupid blog reader cut my comment off!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, if not to the rqncho, move elsewhere! Anywhere!
What does the man do for a living? Could you move to a different city? The rent around us starts out at about 300 US dollars a week, Im not sure how much you have saved up. We are in northern DF , almost Estado de Mexico. My internet connection is great. I could totally show you around and help out in any way I can! Let me finish building our "house"/"apartment" and we would have an extra room in case of emergencies!
Im so not kidding. :) sending thoughts your way, let me know if you ever consider moving up this way. At least we have real cheddar cheese here in Mexico City ;)
Wow! I meant 300 US dollars a MONTH not week. Big difference!
DeleteOhh noo. I am so sorry. I dont think there is anything you can do with his family. I agree with the ladies that it is a control thing and it wont really go away until there is distance. I hope that it is just the plan that you will be able to change for better connection for the internet. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way amiga!!
ReplyDeleteI've gone through something similar but with my own family. Like Leah said, move away as fast as you can. Meanwhile ignore, ignore, ignore as much as you can. Even if you are pissed as hell don't let them see you that way. That's what they want. They want to cause problems in your marriage etc.
ReplyDeleteSee if you can find something you can use in your room to dampen their noise when you are working. Something to put against the door or window, wherever the noise is coming from. If you are using a head piece that covers one ear only when you work, you can use an ear plug to cover the other one. That way you don't hear their noise that much.
I realize that this is my first comment but had to comment as I know how hard it is to live in a situation like that. Sending prayers your way that you can move away sooner than later...:-)
Thanks ladies!! Yuo are all awesome!! I'm the Mami, if Tampico doesn't work ut, I may take you up on that offer! It would be great to meet a fellow blogger and another American in Mexico!!
